Tuareg guitarist and songwriter Mdou Moctar reforges contemporary Saharan music and “rock music“ by melding full-blast guitar shredding, drums, rhythms, poetic meditations on love, religion, women's rights, inequality and Western Africa’s exploitation at the hands of colonial powers. NPR's Bob Boilen named his music "perhaps the most fiery psych--rock of the 21st century."
