They’re tropical storms with wind speeds that can reach up to 230 miles per hour; capable of generating enough electricity to power the entire United States for months. They are tropical cyclones. In the Pacific Ocean, they’re called typhoons; and in the Atlantic, they are… hurricanes. While scientists are working hard to mitigate the damage hurricanes can cause, they generally agree that in the years to come, the risk of hurricanes will get even worse and more unpredictable.
