For the first time, NASA has sent a spacecraft to an asteroid, collected samples, and returned the samples safely back to Earth. This will be the first time that scientists on Earth are able to touch and investigate the properties of an asteroid in space, and opens up the possibility for the future of robotic asteroid mining for materials and resources.
