In a futuristic world, the government has eliminated war by suppressing the emotions of the general public using a compulsory drug called Prozium: books, art and music are forbidden and feeling emotions is a crime punishable by death. Cleric John Preston, a top-ranking government agent responsible for destroying those who resist these rules, eventually has a crises of conscience, and becomes the one capable of overthrowing this oppressive regime.
